Specialty Workshops

In addition to our standard 6-week level classes, The Hideout likes to host specialty workshops on specific topics that will add some great skills to your improv tool belt.

These can range from intensives with world-renowned instructors from out of town to one-off sessions with local teachers showing you some of their unique expertise. They’re a great way to work on very specialized skills in a short amount of time.

Here’s what we have coming up:

7:00 pm (CDT)-9:30 pm (CDT)
Whether you already love being onstage, or break into a cold sweat every time a group of people turns to look at you— storytelling is a learnable skill. This class is designed for seasoned improvisers, nervous public speakers, people in client-facing jobs, chronic over-explainers, people with incredible lives who don’t know how to talk about them yet, and anyone who secretly worries they’re fundamentally uncharismatic. In other words: everybody.
Brian James O'Connell Workshops
Sat. Jun 27th, 2026
2:30 pm (CDT)-5:30 pm (CDT)
$45.00 – $80.00
Brian James O’Connell teaches you the skills you need to find your “position” in the scene and then play it to the hilt. Position Play was invented by Miles Stroth (Del Close’s “Warchief”, Founder, Owner & Operator of The Pack Theater in Los Angeles) as a way to understand and execute the “scene dynamics” of the Four Basic Scene Types: Logical/Absurd, Character Driven, Alternate Reality and Realistic. If you are able to understand the few tools & techniques needed to play these individual scenes, every other choice you make on stage will be from a place of renewed confidence and successful fun!
