LEVEL FOUR: PERFORMING THE SCENE So you’ve decided that this improv thing is for you. The first level of our performance series is an advanced scene study class, building on the foundation you acquired in Levels One through Three and exploring advanced techniques and strategies for getting out of your own way, keeping the audience in the palm of your hand, making strong choices in games, scenes and longer formats, and recognizing the difference between genuine delight and politely muddling through. Level Four includes a strong direct feedback component. Classes run once a week (three hours) for six weeks, limit 12 students. Level Four culminates in a student showcase in the Sunday Weekender for friends and family. LEVEL FIVE: PERFORMING THE SHOW You’ve got all the building blocks of improv and now it’s time to put it all together in a run of self-directed shows. Our professional entertainers will craft a laugh-filled, interactive theatrical experience of any length for any size group that will leave your folks wanting more. It’s guaranteed to be unlike any “show” you’ve ever seen. The Classic Our classic private show provides you with a talented cast of improv comedians and a musician, and will involve audience members in an up-to 80 minute performance of either interactive games and scenes, or a full-length improvised play or movie. We can host you at our theater on Congress Ave downtown (seats up to 95) or bring our show to any space of your choosing. We make up all our comedy, plays, and sketches on the spot (unless otherwise noted). Short form, long form, Chicago-Style, NY-Style, CA-Style, Austin-Style – we do it all (especially Austin-Style, it’s our specialty). We host and produce improv shows Thursday through Sunday. For some of the shows, we invite independent groups to perform (everything you see on Thursday night, for instance) and some of the shows we personally produce (everything you see on Saturday night, for instance). Troupe – usually means a group of people who work together independently of any theater to create their own style and show. The troupes are usually made up of improvisers who have taken classes, here or elsewhere, and enjoy working and performing together. We have a few weekly troupes, like Parallelogramophonograph (who perform every Friday at 10pm), and Firth&Arjet (who perform every Thursday at 10pm). Frequently Asked Questions Do your shows have assigned seats or are they General Admission? All of our shows are General Admission. We will start seating around 10 minutes before showtime. If you have special requirements and would like more time to be seated, or need to sit closer for vison- or hearing- related concerns, please arrive a half hour before show time and let our box office person know. We will be happy to accomodate you. Where do I park? We admit, downtown parking is difficult at times (we deal with it every day). There are several pay lots and garages close to the Hideout Theatre (we’re at 7th and Congress) and they run between $5-$10. There are pay meters that run until midnight Thursday through Saturday downtown (on which you are allowed a max time of 3 hours). We recommend patrons make time for parking when taking a trip to the Hideout Theatre. What are your age restrictions? There is no minimum age to get into the theater. You don’t have to be 18 or 21 to enjoy one of our performances. What age are your shows appropriate for? It’s improv, and different every time, so we can’t give…
