About[caption id="" align="alignright" width="350" caption="view from congress avenue"][/caption] We are an improv theatre. We are in the business of improvisational theatre. We make up all our comedy, plays, and sketches on the spot (unless otherwise noted). Short form, long form, Chicago-Style, NY-Style, CA-Style, Austin-Style – we do it all (especially Austin-Style, it’s our specialty). We host and produce improv shows Thursday through Sunday. For some of the shows, we invite independent groups to perform (everything you see on Thursday night, for instance) and some of the shows we personally produce (everything you see on Saturday night, for instance). Troupe – usually means a group of people who work together independently of any theater to create their own style and show. The troupes are usually made up of improvisers who have taken classes, here or elsewhere, and enjoy working and performing together. We have a few weekly troupes, like Parallelogramophonograph (who perform every Friday at 10pm), and Firth&Arjet (who perform every Thursday at 10pm). Show – usually means a produced production with a curated director, cast, and crew. A good example is our Saturday night 8pm Mainstage shows. Specialty Workshops

In addition to our standard 6-week level classes, The Hideout likes to host specialty workshops on specific topics that will add some great skills to your improv tool belt.

These can range from intensives with world-renowned instructors from out of town to one-off sessions with local teachers showing you some of their unique expertise. They’re a great way to work on very specialized skills in a short amount of time.

We will use pirate accents and characters to explore themes like straight absurd and build big but believable characters! Costumes encouraged but not required!

Character Master Class improv workshop w/ Hideout Instructors (eight weeks)

This improv workshop will enrich your Character tool belt in EIGHT different (and possibly contradictory!) directions over eight weeks. Each week is a unique deep dive on how to build, sustain and fully inhabit Characters in your improv with a different Hideout instructor.

Storytelling Improv Workshop with Kristen Drenning (six weeks)

Whether you already love being onstage, or break into a cold sweat every time a group of people turns to look at you— storytelling is a learnable skill. This class is designed for seasoned improvisers, nervous public speakers, people in client-facing jobs, chronic over-explainers, people with incredible lives who don’t know how to talk about them yet, and anyone who secretly worries they’re fundamentally uncharismatic. In other words: everybody.
