Intro to Puppetry for Improv
with LB Kovac
Sunday, April 27, 10:30am-1pm (2.5 hours) at The Hideout Theatre downtown

Whether you’re looking to enhance your existing improv skills, explore a completely new art form, or just have some good-ol’-fashioned fun, this workshop is for you! Explore the fundamentals of theatrical hand puppetry (and a little hand-and-rod puppetry, aka muppetry), from the rich history behind the craft to on-stage tips-and-tricks for technique and movement. Through playful exercises and guided scene work, you will step into the roles of both puppeteer and human scene partner, learning how to create compelling performances that include puppets. By the end of this workshop, you will be ready for some on-stage puppet shenanigans!

LB Kovac has been improvising on stage for 2 years and in life for much, much longer. She has trained and performed at several theatres locally, including the Hideout, Fallout, and ColdTowne, and as well as internationally in London, Liverpool, Dublin, Edinburgh, and Amsterdam. Recently, she acted and puppeteered as part of the troupe Laughs for Lunch (Fallout Theatre) and in the show Trash Town (Impro Amsterdam); she also co-directed Wild Friends (Hideout Theatre). She is currently working on an improvised puppet show loosely inspired by the works of Studio Ghibli. As a performer, she loves to play with the natural tension in improvised shows that exists between the real and the imagined when it comes to sets, props, artwork, and—of course—puppets.

$25-59 (pay-what-you-can) / 2.5 hours / Limited Space / Class is held at the Hideout Theatre – 617 Congress Ave
