Cultural Specificity in Improv Scenes
with Diego de los Reyes
Sunday, October 1, 3-5:30 pm (2.5 hours)

In this workshop, attendees will learn flash and sense memory exercises to expand their scene starts, and create fully formed characters based on your personal knowledge and skill-set. A performer’s culture and language forms part of their improv toolkit, and this workshop will help performers draw from it. The workshop will consist of exercises, short games and scenes to work through these concepts. People new to improv will learn skills in a friendly environment, while veterans will enjoy the challenge of stretching their comedy chops in a different way. Additionally — depending on class composition — we’d like to run non-English scenes to practice our improv muscles in a different language.

Diego de los Reyes graduated from The Hideout’s curriculum and currently performs in shows around town. In the past, he has performed in The Hideout’s “What We Do In The Darkness”, and directed and performed in “STRANDED” and Hoot Night, as well as guested with Austin troupes like Escandalo.

Free! (pay-what-you-can) / 2.5 hours / Limited Space / Class is held at the Hideout Theatre downtown
