Opening night of season 3 of Austin Secrets was magical.
We had a sold-out house of mostly people new to the show. We had some really silly moments. Kareem’s sarcastic whistling made me laugh so hard that I had trouble continuing the show.
And of course, we had more serious scenes, as well… scenes about dealing with loss, and seeking the approval of our parents.
I always feel a little sheepish for choosing to direct the same show every year. But then the show launches, and I remember why. The theater transforms… becomes more intimate, more connected. The air feels different. And on a great night, the audience and the performers feel like they’ve been through something special together.
Here are the slides we used for opening night.
We’d love for you to join us for a future show.
