The Hideout has a new A-Frame to put outside the theatre, and it’s super cool. We can easily pop in new posters. Here’s the poster we just got printed for Charles Dickens Unleashed!:
Speaking of Dickens, the debut last night was a success! I can honestly say that there has never been a Hideout production so polished looking. Everyone looks so darned smart in their costumes, especially the ladies with the hats that Valerie conjured out of old doilies, crocheting, and spit.
The show itself told the tale of Roger Southwick. Roger was born into a rich family, and his fortunes only seemed to be improving when he was adopted by the Duke of Kingsbridge. But the Duke was a cruel man, and Roger lived for 5 years as a virtual slave. His only joy stemmed from his friendship with the Duke’s daughter, Beatrice. Eventually they ran away and fell in with a ship of baby stealers.
Escaping the baby stealers with a stolen baby in tow, they sought refuge with Roger’s parents only to be denied. Therefore they lived poorly as a family for 15 years, with Roger working as a humble door greaser.
Eventually, however, the baby stealers returned with a vengeance, obsessed with recovering their lost prize. In the struggle that ensued, Beatrice was killed and their son restolen. With nowhere left to turn, Roger sought out his parents again.
After several more encounters, the family was eventually whole again, consisting of Roger, his parents, and Roger’s adopted child.
Got all that?
