January 14 – 29, The Hideout Theatre presents Nozes Off, a look behind the grease paint into the lives of a clown troupe. Nozes Off gives the audience a peek behind the curtain and into the psyche of performers as they transform from average, every-day people into their outrageous clown alter-egos.
The six characters of Nozes Off will take the audience through an entire night of clowning, from call time, when the actors show up in their street clothes and start smearing clown white across their cheeks, to after the curtain falls and the wash rags, cold cream and self-reflection come out.
Nozes Off is the brainchild of Jessica Arjet, a 15-year clowning veteran. The inspiration for Nozes Off was born the day Arjet showed her clown-makeup process to a group of children. “They watched the entire process, almost silently. I have never seen a room that still,” Arjet says. “That was the first time I realized that the behind the scenes might be as interesting or more interesting than the show.”
Nozes Off contains adult content, so no kiddos at this clown show, please.
